Conair is the leading producer of auxiliary equipment for plastics processing in the world. We make and market over 450 different products, including resin-drying systems, blenders, feeders and material-conveying systems, temperature-control equipment and granulators.  Extrusion solutions include gravimetric control systems, film and sheet scrap-reclaim systems and downstream equipment for pipe and profile extrusion. Purpose

The Director of Purchasing is responsible for driving purchasing policies and practices for company operations.  They are responsible for the provision of materials and services in support of manufacturing operations and sales. They are responsible for sourcing goods and services in a cost efficient manner while ensuring highest value for our company and customers.  This position must work cooperatively with Global Product Managers, Engineering, Operations and Quality personnel to ensure complimentary efforts.  This position requires a high degree of self-motivation, technical understanding of industrial equipment, procurement and logistics best practices, and lean/6-sigma principles.  The Director of Purchasing interfaces with peers across IPEG’s locations to ensure compliance to global standards.  This position will be located in Franklin, Pennsylvania and will report to the Director of Operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop sourcing strategy for New Product Introductions (NPI) in cooperation with Business Development, Engineering, Operations, and Quality departments;
  • Negotiate contracts, purchase prices, and significant one-time purchases with a focus on ongoing cost reduction and reporting;
  • Lead global sourcing initiatives to support operations;
  • Support value analysis and value engineering (VA/VE) activities in cooperation with Business Development, Engineering, Operations, and Quality departments;
  • Strategically identify alternative sources to support capacity/risk management, cost reduction, and quality initiatives;
  • Strategically identify alternative parts/components to achieve highest product value;
  • Enable and ensure systematic use of company’s ERP system (SAP);
  • Manage inventory levels via proactive system setting maintenance and planning;
  • Develop and maintain supplier scorecard process in cooperation with Quality department;
  • Lead/mentor/develop/manage Purchasing/Procurement team to achieve targets. Develop high level of collaboration, deployment of best practices, and accountability;
  • Negotiate transportation rates and services in cooperation with Logistics team;
  • Develop Purchasing practices to fulfill ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007 requirements;
  • Motivate, organize and encourage teamwork within the workforce to ensure productivity targets are met;
  • Comply with and ensure department compliance with Company health, safety and environmental policies;
  • Comply with all applicable U.S. export control and security regulations;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred;
  • Certified Purchasing Professional or Manager and Lean Six Sigma Certification;
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience leading a supply chain/purchasing function for a manufacturer of custom equipment/products;
  • Global sourcing experience;
  • Experience with direct and indirect purchasing spend in the $50-100M range per annum;
  • Experience with cost-focused solutions to manufacturing issues;
  • Experience with strategic purchasing practices, i.e. category management;
  • Inventory management/reduction experience required;
  • Experience with design and manufacturing of industrial machine products;
  • SAP experience;
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, JIT, OEE, line sequencing, KANBAN, etc.;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and organization aptitude;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Must possess strong computer skills (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word);
  • Hands-on approach;
  • Excellent negotiation skills.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • You will be expected to occasionally (1% to 20% of the time):
    • Lift objects from one level to another (50 lbs. or less)
    • Carry objects (30 lbs. or less)
    • Climb stairs, ramps, ladders, etc.
    • Stoop/crouch by bending your legs or bending down/forward at the waist
