Routine cleaning of your chiller Y-strainer helps maintain proper water flow, protect critical cooling components, and support stable process temperatures. Over time, debris and contamination can collect in the strainer, restricting flow and reducing cooling efficiency. Regular inspection and cleaning help prevent unnecessary strain on your chiller system and reduce the risk of performance issues or unplanned downtime.
Chiller Y-Strainer Cleaning Instructions
1. Power down and lock out the chiller.
(Caution: Befor
e performing maintenance or repairs on this product, you should disconnect and lockout electrical power sources to prevent injury from unexpected energization or start-up. A lockable device may be provided to isolate this product from potentially hazardous electricity.)
(Warning: Before removing lockout devices and returning switches to the ON position, make sure that all personnel are clear of the machine, tools have been removed, and allĀ safety guards reinstalled.)
2. Close the water inlet and outlet to the chiller.
3. Use the valve attached to the strainer cap to bleed off the water pressure.
4. Once the pressure is bled off, cap at the end of the Y and remove the strainer.
5. Use air or water to blow the contamination out of the strainer; make sure to wear safety glasses.
(Caution: Wear eye protection. If you use compressed air to clean the equipment, you must wear eye protection and observe all OSHA and other safety regulations pertaining to the use of compressed air)
6. Once the strainer is clean, inspect it for any damage or breaks in the mesh.
7. If it is inspected well, reinstall it into the cap, make sure it is properly seated, and tighten up the cap.
8. Turn the water and power back on and restore the chiller to running status.
If you discover damaged mesh, restricted flow, or signs of wear during inspection, it may be time to replace parts or seek additional service support. Addressing issues early helps maintain reliable cooling performance and protects your equipment from avoidable problems. Conair offers replacement components, technical assistance, and preventive maintenance service agreements to help keep your cooling systems operating at their best.
